The Ice Box

The wait is over! No more waiting for a scoop of ice cream on a slice of birthday cake. Now you can have your cake and ice cream, too! That’s right…”cake and ice cream” cake!  I was first introduced to the cake recently at a Christmas party. It was love at first bite! A layer of moist cake, a layer of homemade ice cream and a layer of thick, rich fudge!  The perfect combination and just the right amount of both cake and ice cream!

Apparently this is not a new concept. The Ice Box opened in 1978 in Brooklyn, CT, also known as “The Quiet Corner.” Jenn Nemeth, a local resident, started working there in the late 90’s and twenty years later, Jenn and her husband Matt purchased the business.

Committed to using only quality, local products, Jenn and Matt make small batch homemade ice cream right on site and serve it in plant-based, echo-conscious packaging called Vegware.

In addition to the the original vanilla and chocolate cakes, The Ice Box has seasonal holiday flavors such as cranberry cake with cheesecake ice cream and white chocolate icing; Christmas spice cake with eggnog ice cream and rum icing and let’s not forget the gingerbread cake!

If it’s not a cake you’re looking for, stop in and enjoy an ice cream cone, sundae, float, shake or cookie sandwich with one of the many, constantly changing, flavors they offer.  You can select from hard, soft, sugar free or vegan ice cream and if gluten is a problem for you no worries…they offer gluten-free cones, as well! Oh…and sprinkles are on the house!  You can’t beat that!  Of course I had to get a small cookies and coffee ice cream cone with chocolate sprinkles when I picked up my cake!

The Ice Box is open everyday from 12:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. and is located at 17 S Main Street in Brooklyn, Connecticut.   Be sure to follow them on Facebook to stay up to date on current flavors and specials.  When you stop in for a treat be sure to let them know that Out and About Allie sent you!
