New bakery? Whenever I hear of a new bakery I can’t get there fast enough! I first learned of Loveridge Place while scrolling on Facebook (of course!) Open only on the weekends, how was I ever going to get there?
I don’t know about you but I’m always looking for opportunities to visit markets, deli’s, bakeries, shops, boutiques, etc. when I have to venture out-of-town. I call it maximizing resources and using time efficiently. That’s exactly what I did last Saturday when Mike told me he was bringing hazardous waste to Stonington by noon. I quickly volunteered to go along for the ride so I could finally go check out Loveridge Place.
On the corner of Prospect Street and Palmer Street, off the beaten path just a bit, sits a little bakery that packs a lot of deliciousness! Carla Gennuso, owner and executive chef of Loveridge Place uses traditional recipes and locally sourced ingredients when ever possible to create mouthwatering, homemade pastries, bread, soups, salads, sandwiches, desserts and more.
Greeted right away as we walked in, I immediately felt welcomed (unlike a bakery I go to where the staff aren’t friendly and I feel rushed to make a decision.) I knew right away that I was going to like it here! Although it was small inside, my eyes didn’t know where to look first! I was admiring the open kitchen, drooling over the pastries and sweet treats, chatting to the friendly staff, reading the menu board and looking at all the homemade soup options. I wanted one of everything!
The two lovely ladies behind the counter, I didn’t get their names, were genuinely happy to answer all my questions, and believe me when I say I had a lot of questions. They patiently waited as I walked back and forth from counter to counter contemplating what to buy. Mike knew right away he wanted an oatmeal cookie and carrot cake then left the rest up to me.
Our box was full when we left with cookies (I highly recommend the shortbread cookies), a slice of blueberry tart, a croissant with roasted vegetables and a croissant with ham and cheese (the croissants were so soft, fresh and buttery), a mini goat cheese and tomato Quiche (creamy and delicious) and a Boston cream and a carrot cake dessert. Although it was difficult to do, I passed on the house-made bagels and bread but I won’t next time!
I’d really like to try a breakfast sandwich when I go back or one of their gourmet sandwiches on a croissant (or both!) Lucky for me my daughter lives less than a mile away from Loveridge Place so I’ll be sure to place an order for her to pick up when I know she’s coming to my house!
Check out their Facebook Page regularly to see what’s cooking and don’t forget to order breads, Quiche, tarts and cookies for your next holiday gathering! Or…pick up a coffee and a pastry or sandwich on your way to the beach.
Delivery to local businesses and restaurants is also available. (Why do I have to live so far away?)
Stop in or give them a call at (860)495-2664. They’re open Friday – Sunday 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and are located at 2 Prospect Street in Pawcatuck, CT.
Make sure you tell them OutandAboutAllie sent you!
